Location: Barcelona, Spain
Aside from a few technical improvements in the sound, light and video equipment, it was a case of more of the same from Razzmatazz in the last year. And why fix what isn't broken? For many years now, this club has been a bastion of underground sounds in the Catalonian capital. Located in an industrial part of El Poublenou, what makes the venue so unique is that it is said to offer Barcelona’s only true multi-room superclub experience.
There are, in fact, five different spaces in all, with beefy L-Acoustics systems in three of them, and Funktion-Ones in the other two. The décor and design of each is subtly tweaked depending on the night, and in the last 12 months a tasteful selection of stars such as DJ Bone, Paula Temple, Sassy J, Josey Rebelle and Lee Gamble have all played.
There was also a three-day This Is Hardcore party during Off Week, and a renewed dedication to local talent with weekly parties featuring hot young collectives. Journeys is a regular party where artists start early and are allowed to play for a full five hours, and Less Than D118CO is the night where all tracks have to sit below the 118bpm threshold. It's a winning formula, for sure.
